Happy 3rd Birthday, Evangeline!

It's her birth day today (3 years ago). We brought her to Universal Studios Singapore (USS) for some great entertainment and fun. Indeed, she had good fun and could tell that she enjoyed herself tremendously.

We took many great pictures with the characters and took rides. Evangeline is not like her mummy who is so afraid of the characters when she was a young gal. She hugged and kissed all the characters she met. What a brave girl!

After a long day at USS, we had dinner at Hard Rock Cafe at RWS. We informed the staff that it is Evangeline's birthday and they had a birthday sundae for her and sang a birthday song for her....

Evangeline celebrated her 3rd birthday in school today as she'll be going to Universal Studio Singapore (USS) tomorrow on her actual day. We bought her favourite "Strawberry Shortcake & Friends" rectangle cake and prepared some goodies in a loot bag for her classmates. She was so delighted to see her cake & enjoyed singing birthday song, taking pictures, cutting cake, eating cake, distributing her goodies bag to her friends.

Last day of school in Learning Visions

Today is Evangeline's last day of school at Learning Visions @ Changi. We took some pictures for her and her with teachers who had taught her.

Throughout this year, she has grown a great deal and graduated from Toddlers class to Nursery 1 within 8mths. I've spoke with her current teacher, Teacher Nadiah and was been informed that she is a sociable girl who could interact well with her peers.

She is also very vocal in her speech and a usual helper to teachers. She knows the class rules well and would always feedback to her teachers if her friends/classmates did something out of the class rules. She eats well in school and would take her time to finish the food if it is not to her liking. However, if she likes the food, she'd finished it fast. She's a neat girl and would eat her meal without making a mess. However, a point to note is that she has little confidence of herself and required more encouragement when it comes to doing schoolwork and assignments. She always say she can't do it but with a little encouragement from her teacher and friends, she is able to complete her work.

Overall, her friends and teachers will be missed by her and vice versa.

Today, Evangeline talked to her grand-ma like an adult. As usual, ma-ma woke her up for school. Guess what she replied her ma-ma??? You'll be surprised!

Ma-ma: Evangeline, wake up! Go to school oredi...
Evangeline: Don't disturb me! I want to sleep!
Ma-ma: (expression is shocked and laughed}

She is not even 3yrs old yet know how to answer such words. Personally, I find it very amazing that she can speak like an adult. Then, her ma-ma asked her gong-gong to go wake her up. She answered him the same way. Sometimes I wondered where she learnt all these from! Ultimately, they managed to wake the sleepyhead for school. I wasn't there to witness the whole incident. My girl is growing up...

I must say Evangeline knows how to hold a pen or pencil. She can focus on an object & colour the inner part of it. She holds onto her magic pencil and draw circle on her drawing board (although its not really very very circle but you can tell it's a circle!). She drew many circles and coloured them all. She could also write No 1. Very soon she'll be able to write her name!

1st long holiday to LONDON & PARIS

It was Evangeline's 1st long trip! We decided on London because my brother is there and mum can visit him. Paris was a throw-in because it was just 2hrs away by train from Paris and little Evangeline can visit Disneyland.

Evangeline has taken a flight before - to Phuket when she was 1.5yrs old. Then, she was still little and didn't exactly know much things. Now, this is a challenge for her and us to be on a 12hrs flight! I wondered if she could handle the long hrs! She was great! She was very excited to be on a plane. We took SQ and when she saw the crew, she kept saying:" Mummy, your friend!" She watched Dora the Explorer and a few other kids programmes. She ate and fell asleep. She didn't have earache problem as I made her drink water when aircraft is ascending & descending.

Promoted to N1

From today onwards, Evangeline has been promoted to N1 - Talented Tigers in Learning Vision CC. With her toddlers teachers advice & encouragement, they felt Evangeline is capable enough to proceed to N1 as she is able vocalised herself very well.

Based on her new teacher Nadiah's feedback, she adapted very well in class. There are 5 children in her class, including herself & Rafael (her Toddler Lamb classmate who is also born in Jan 2008). It is better for her to be in N1 as she'll be learning more things such as Letterland and Math.

This week, Teacher Nadiah updated us that she'll be learning "Qq" for Letterland & "4" for Math.

We just had a Parents-Teacher Conference with Teacher Gerene on last Friday. Teacher Gerene updated us on Evangeline's well-being and progress in school for the first half year in Learning Vision.

Basically, she has done well as a Toddler. She could do almost all the things that are required or expected of her as a Toddler. She is also the first and only toddler who is toilet-trained, progressed from wearing diapers to telling teachers her needs of going to the toilet for wee-wee and poo-poo.

She is extremely vocal too. Being able to express herself in English language and speak in proper sentence, helps Teachers to understand what she wants or does. She could follow instructions well and interact with her friends. It is inevitable for a toddler to snatch toys whilst at play with her friends. However, once her teacher called out her name - she knows she is in the wrong & will appear upset and sob.

She loves to say "my favourite is purple colour!" and indeed we can tell and see through her artwork. Most of her works are in PURPLE.

She knows her colours and shapes well. At this age, she is able to identify the letters and especially E which is for Evangeline, she said!

Way to go, gal....

New Milestone: Go without diaper!

Hi, it's Mummy updating on Evangeline again...

She has grown up a little more now. Since 14 May 2010 - last Friday, she has gone to school without putting on diaper! She knows how to say when she wants to pee or pass motion before doing it. We have been trying to train her at home without diaper during the daytime. And on Friday, she decided to go to school without her diaper. Great job, Evangeline! Way to go....

Yesterday, I was very happy to be informed by Teacher Jerene that Evangeline is very well-mannered. She accidentally peed in her panties without informing the teachers BUT she apologised to both of them for doing so... and looked sad! Well, she's a well-mannered and well-behaved gal and I'm very proud of her.

Today is the 3rd day she went to school without diaper. However, along the way to school, she peed in her panties because she couldn't hold it any longer. But I forgave her because she told me she wanted to wee wee but just couldn't hold it any longer.

I thank God for blessing me with such a lovely and adorable girl... Mummy Loves You, Evangeline.

We constantly received emails from her teachers to inform us abt her progress in school. Below is an extract of what Teacher Jerine said:

"Here is a quick update on Evangeline's progress in school.

Evangeline is starting to enjoy school more and participates in activities enthusiastically.

As she is able to vocalise very well, she enjoys helping out her friends during lessons. Once, when we were conducting lesson on bags, we showed a child the picture of a bag and asked what it is. Evangeline noticed that her classmate was not answering and whispered to her, 'bag'. This had happened a few times, even during chinese lessons.

Also, Evangeline would say 'I pass motion' or 'I wee wee in my diapers' to inform us when she pass urine/motion."

She's been a smart and helpful gal. Good Job!!!

Evangeline shows her first traits of tactical moves today. We sent her to school as per usual with the exception of fetching Marie to school without Michelle. Upon reaching, I told mum (in Hokkien) that I'll be carrying Marie whilst she takes care of Evangeline. I supposed Evangeline understands Hokkien and once alighted from the car, she immediately said:" Mama, you carry my bag!" After which my mum did, she said:" Mummy, carry me." She knows that I was about to carry Marie and she didn't allow me to do so out of jealousy. Therefore, she asked mama to carry her bag first and requested me to carry her. We all think that there must be some tactical thinking going on in that small little head of hers to come up with such steps and instructions for the two adults!!! Wow, this is the first time we are been instructed tactically by a small and intelligent girl!!! :)

Today, Michelle told me that Bethesda Kindergarten is open for registration for 2011. Immediately, both of us went to the school to register for both Marie & Evangeline for Pre-Nursery class next year. It's only March 2010 now... yes, we know... but this is a popular school in Pasir Ris and we were afraid that there may not be a space if we register late, esp morning session.

The school is non air-con (which I like) and each class has its own room (which is good). For the little ones, only school t-shirt is required. They will have to wear their own bottoms. Cool! In fact, we are pretty satisfied with her current school - Learning Vision. However, we are not sure if Teacher Nas will continue to be her teacher next year. And Bethesda Kindergarten is nearer to home (more convenient for mum), it's only 2.5hrs session (not too stressing for Evangeline) and they have term breaks (just like primary schools).

We paid a deposit of S$222.10 to secure a space and on 27 Mar 2010, there will be an open house whereby James & Mum would attend to understand more about the school syllabus and system. By then, we would presume there will be more people enrolling into the school...

Today, Evangeline has got eye infection on her left eye. It looks a bit red and we decided to let her skip school and bring her to the paed. As I was working, I couldn't bring her and left the task to my mum. My mum informed that she told the dr: Dr, my eye pain. She knows how to tell where her eye is pain and etc. Her daddy says she is very smart gal. Knows how to tell dr that her eye is pain.

Dr says her eye had an infection and had to put eye lotion and take anti-biotics. Hope she recovers soon....

Beginning to enjoy school

Evangeline is beginning to enjoy school. Her Teacher Nas informed that she will sing when she is happy in school. E.g: She was at the playground (which is her fav) and she started singing "Do-Re-Mi" song and surprised her teachers. As they did not teach her this song in school. She learnt it through her mummy cos her mummy is a BIG FAN of "The Sound of Music". Even when she does art & craft in class, she started singing "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star".

Evangeline is a very sensible gal for a 2 year old. She appeared happy on last friday and I asked her, "R u happy?" She replied:"yes". Then she asked :"Daddy, R u Happy?" "Mummy, R u Happy" Gosh, she is smart.... Of cos, we replied her positively YES....

We are so happy to have her as our daughter... Lovely daughter.... *kiss kiss*

Evangeline had a fun time celebrating her 2nd birthday at home on Sat. We could tell that she was very very happy to be in new clothes and many people celebrating and singing birthday song to her. She had a "Strawberry Shortcake" cake (which is Mummy's fav!!!) and Dora the Explorer Agar Agar cake too. She cut the cake happily and also made a wish... We are not too sure if she really know what is "Make a Wish!"... Took many beautiful pix of her...

Chicken pox & flu jab

Yesterday, we took Evangeline for Chicken pox and flu jab. She was, as usual, a brave girl. She didn't cry at all for both jabs on both arms. It was a relief for me now that she is vaccinated for chicken pox. I was afraid she might get chicken pox from her friends in school. Moreover, she likes to scratch her open wounds. It would disaster if she contracted it. She needs to get another jab six months later to be 95% protected.

TODAY, 4 Jan 2010, is Evangeline's 1st day of school. She is very excited about school. She woke up at 7.00am without us waking her up. We are all pretty surprised as she slept very late last night (abt 12am). There are total 8 students in her "Lovely Lamb Toddlers" class. Most of them are girls and only 2 boys. Marie Faith Ee (Michelle's daughter) is in the same class as Evangeline. They are now classmates but she is only on half-day.

Evangeline is a brave young girl. She didn't cry today but got frightened by other kids who cried. Today is only an orientation day for her and she loves exploring her class which has many toys for her to play.

During lunch time, they had "Mee Hoon Soup". Evangeline self-fed herself, although a little messy. But it's fine! She learnt how to be independent and master her motor skills of holding the spoon and feed herself with meehoon and soup. She especially loves vegetables so I informed Teacher Naz (her English teacher) to give her additional serving. She had a slice of red apple too.

After lunch, she took her strawberry shortcake bag and followed Teacher Naz into the toilet. As we did not bring her towel, she did not bath and Teacher Naz changed her.

She was tired by 1230pm and knocked out whilst we had lunch at T1 food canteen.

Evangeline turns 21 mths old

Evangeline has turned 21mths old today. I can't imagine the day she turns 21 yrs old! It'll be a long journey but would be full of life experience.

At 21mths, she has became more ladylike and looking prettier with a character. She can combine a few words to make an understandable sentence. E.g: Daddy goes work! Watch Barney. I love you. You can tell that she is making a good effort in trying to speak out. She is also learning mandarin but the pronunciation is still not very good.

She is recovering from flu and cough. It's so difficult to make her eat medicine. She simply dislikes to eat medicine. We got to hold her down and kinda force the syrup into her mouth. Gosh....

Evangeline is every bit a woman behaviour. Play pretend: She will hold on the baby and pretend to feed her milk. Her posture is so heartwarming. Only girls will do such an act. If now it's a boy, you wouldn't think he will behave in such a manner.

Evangeline loves to look good and pretty too. She will sit still to allow me to comb her hair and tie her hair.

We love Evangeline so much. Nobody can replaces her. I just wanna see her daily and love her daily. I thank GOD for this wonderful gift. It's great to have Evangeline! She's our darling daughter....

Evangeline was surprised to see Tom & Jerry came alive!

Last week was the 3rd term school hols and at Downtown East, there was "Tom & Jerry" event whereby children can meet and take pix with them. We happened to be there to meet Aunt Joey and let Evangeline meet up with Tom & Jerry which were familiar faces for her.

Evangeline got excited when she sees them in human size form. As the queue was very long, we didn't get a coupon to take pix with them. Instead, Daddy carried Evangeline and we took a few shots of Eve and them from afar.

18 mths MMR jab

Today, Evangeline took her last compulsory jab - Infanrix for DPT/DT & Polio vaccine at The Kid's Clinic as well as her 18mths development assessment.

At 18 mths:-
Growth: Weight @ 11kg (75%)
Height @ 79.4cm (50%) - I guess she got my genes for being petite in size!

As for physical examination:
1. Fixation on moving object: Right & Left eye - No problem
2. Fontanelles - Ok
3. Ears - Ok
4. Heart - Ok
5. Teeth - Ok
6. Muscle Tone - Ok
7. Lungs - Ok
8. Genitals - Ok
9. Posture - Ok
10. Abdomen - Ok
11. Skin - Ok ( recovered from mild ezcema!)
12. Gait - Ok

Personal Social
1. She can indicate what she wants without crying or whining by pointing, pulling and speaking. E.g She'll pull my hand and lead me to the stairs when she's tired and time for bed by saying: Let's go bed!

2. When mama is doing housework like washing toilet with a brush, sweeping the floor, etc - she tends to copy what mama does.

3. She has slight difficulty in holding a regular cup herself to drink water as she usually drink from a straw/ spout. (It's time to let her practice now!

Fine Motor-Adaptive
4. Evangeline has no problem picking up a small object like a raisin, using only the ends of his thumbs and index finger. She's always eating her star biscuits without any problem.

5. Evangeline will scribble on the paper when we give her crayons. However, we are still unsure if she's right-handed or left-handed.

6. At the clinic, Dr Tan gave her 2 blocks and instructed her to stack it up. She obediently did it with ease.

Language
7. Evangeline says more than just Papa & Mama. She could say many words and call me Mummy and her daddy when she was 12 - 13mths. She knows her cartoon friends like Care Bear, Winnie the PoohPooh, "Mimi Mouse" - i.e. Mickey Mouse, Hello Kitty, Elmo, Strawberry Shortcake. Animal friends like dog, puppy, cat, leopard, cheetah, elephant, lion, tiger, parrot, koala bear, bear, peacock, etc etc. Her fruits & vegetables like apple, kiwi, strawberry, orange, banana. Her games like ball, balloon, bubbles, etc. Her food like porridge, rice, bread, water, milk, fish, chicken.

8. Without coaching, pointing or helping, Evangeline can point to at least 2 parts of her body such as nose, eyes, ears, hands, legs & stomach when asked. In fact, she knows more of the detailed parts like eyebrow, eye lashes, belly button, armpit, elbow, knee, toes, neck, hair, tongue, teeth, etc.

9. Evangeline can combine more than 2 words like "let's go", "thank you", "walking", "painful" when hurt. She knows how to say "Dun want" when she doesn't want to do something. She can even sing songs like "Twinkle Twinkle Little Stars" - perfect tune and get most of the wordings right. "Old Macdonald's has a farm" - she will sing the chorus of e-ya, e-ya, o.

We have no problem with Evangeline's language development. She advanced well in this area. Evangeline could also say from No 1 - 10 correctly.

Gross Motor
10. Evangeline can stand alone, without having to hold on to something for 10sec or more (stand alone). In fact, she started walking independently at 14mths. The only bad habit she has now is tip-toe whenever she walks. Checked with Dr Tan, she said it's absolutely fine for beginners like her. They'll grow out of it, we just need to remind her constantly.

11. She walks well with good balance, rarely falls and does not sway from side to side.

12. As we are living in maisonette, she climbs up and down the stairs on her own. Of course, we taught her to hold on to the railing tight and be careful.

Evangeline is a brave gal and didn't cry when she took her jab. We gave her sweet to distract her attention and pain. As Dr Tan said they might develop fever, we fed her with paracetamol to avoid it. Thus far, she's good!!! :)

We brought Evangeline to Marina Barrage on 21 Jun 09. She had much fun playing at the water playground and enjoyed the scenery. It was very impromptu and she was half-naked playing with the water jets and knee-length pool.

As I was typing in about her milestones, she woke up from her afternoon nap and 1 button from her, everything is erased!!! Dat's my 18mths old gal!!! What else can I describe about her --- mischevious, developing her own character and fast!

Night Safari

We brought Evangeline to Night Safari on 1 Jun 2009. We bought the tickets at 50% disc due to GSS promotion as well as Family Package promo. Together with us were my brother, his friend - Francesca, my mum and Samantha.

This is the first time Eve went to a zoo. She was very excited to see these animals up, close and personal. We were at the Tiger enclosure where the tiger was so close up with only a glass panel separating us. She was not afraid of the Tiger at all. I believe it is due to the fact that we have a pet dog, Leo at home. She is exposed to animals like Leo and cats since infant. She may only see Tiger as one of the same species of 4-legged animals but in bigger size.

We would like to visit the day zoo soon. Hopefully, we can go on 16 Jun with godma Olivia to celebrate Adam's birthday. We shall see how....

Phuket trip 3 - 7 Jun 2009

TR 152 from Singapore to Phuket from Singapore Budget Terminal, 3 Jun 2009

This is Evangeline's first overseas trip - Phuket, Thailand from 3 - 7 Jun 2009. We took Tiger Airways direct to Phuket and stayed in Royal Palm Beach Resort located at Taweewong Road, Patong beach.

Evangeline is a great flyer, she didn't cry a single bit on the flight journey to and fro. She was also very cooperative throughout the holiday trip. On day 1, she woke up early to take the early morning flight (ETD: 0830hrs) which is about 6am. Slept on the plane, didn't get ear ache or air sick... She followed us stayed awake until late at night (of course with in between naps). On day 2, we went island hopping to Phi Phi island, Maya island where "The Beach" was filmed, Monkey islands, etc. We got to wake up early too to take the speed boat tour (pickup time was 7.30am). She, too, wake up automatically to get ready and dress up. Didn't get seasick along the way and enjoyed the beach very much. On day 3, both daddy & mummy went scuba diving and Evangeline stayed with ma-ma and Vogi uncle. On day 4, we went temple visiting - Big Buddha temple & Wat Chalong. Evangeline was good throughout the day too. On the last day 5, we got to wake up extremely early again to get to the airport as our flight back home was 9.15am. We got to leave for airport at 6.30am. Again, Evangeline was very cooperative and woke up around 6am (which is not her usual time). She wasn't too fussy with food and ate Thai cuisine. In Phuket, we introduced Macdonalds to Evangeline and realised that she loves french fries.
Throughout the trip, we would say it's a very good experience for Evangeline & us. Both thumbs up for her and we'll plan for another overseas vacation again since she's such a lovely gal to bring along. 10/10 for her!!! :)

On 26 Apr 2009, we brought Evangeline to Changi Airport T3 to see planes. Although she has visited airport before, that was when she was still an infant about 3mths old. Now, as a toddler, this is her first visit and she was able to understand more things and know what is a plane and how it flies in the sky.

On 11 Apr 2009, we brought Eve to Parkway Parade to attend her first lesson of Little Neuro Tree (LNT). She enjoyed her first lesson and able to follow through what teacher Alicia was teaching. The class was fun with 4 other friends around, including Rayden whose mummy Lynn, from SMH Jan 08. We are given a Home Support Booklet, Year 1 Apr-Jun 2009 to keep track of her performance and attendance. Basically, the book contained sections where we keep track of her learning & term goals, home practice (homework), songs in Eng, Chi, Jap as well as a pg where we paste a sticker of attendance.

After the lesson, we went to Isetan toys dept. This is the best dept where Eve enjoyed the most. In here, she could play with all the toys available. Eve has a soft spot for bears, esp Panda bear. She would smile & laugh happily whenever she sees one and says "bear-bear, bear-bear". From her expression, you can tell that she really likes it very much. We handed her one Panda bear and her eyes glittered with joy. She just wouldn't let go of the bear no more. So her daddy decided to buy it for her (although he planned to buy her a Kungfu Panda plush toy).

When she reached home, she carries her new bear and walk around the house. She would kiss it, hug it, walk with it, lie with it, do anything and everything with it!!! From the pictures here, you can tell how much she loves this bear.

This is the 1st time Evangeline visited The Botanical Garden. There are many changes through my memories 20plus years ago... hahaha... It was my 2nd time?! It's not the first place that would come to our mind for an outing. We parked our car at Cluny Road entrance where the foodcourt is. But we wanted to visit Children's garden where the fun is. Little did we know that it's at the extreme end of where we parked our car! So we walked, and walked, and walked with our little dog, Leo! It is a good workout though...

Hi, Eve is 14 mths old today. She has developed a great deal these mths. For what mummy can remember, following are the stuff:

Vocal:
Eve has managed quite many words in 1 syllabus & 2 syllabus. She could articulate "Mummy", "Daddy", mama, yi, gor gor, gong gong, yeh yeh, nei nei, bye bye, any other words that we try to teach her. The most interesting word she tries to articulate is "Grapes", she can't get the word out and said "geak" with her mouth closed!

Physical:
Eve is slightly slow in physical -- walking! Up to nw, she still doesn't walk well. These couple of days she could managed a few steps on her own without support. Slowly but steadily she's gripping this skill.

At this age, her fav is bear!!! Always repeating the word: bear bear, and will hug & kiss any softie she sees when we'r out shopping. Insisting on stopping by the shop & touch and carry the bear toy... Of course, we don't forget about our friend: "Leo". Evangeline has been calling "LEO-LEO" from the day since she knows how to call him. Not only that, she'll hug and sayang him. We think that she loves him dearly.

I've not take her weight & height yet so not too sure how much she has grown. However, she's been taking Gain IQ, 6oz 3x daily.

1st time having fever

Evangeline is now a toddler! No longer a baby... From this month onwards, we believe we'll get more and more surprises from Eve. She has just recovered from a butt of fever last week. We do not know why suddenly she had fever! She just woke up in the morning & body felt hot! We got to monitor her every now and then, sponge her, insert medicine (bullet) in her butt, alternate her with baby panadol & ibuprofen every 3 - 4hrs, put the cool pad on her forehead (which she dislikes very much). When it comes to night time, we have to be extra cautious. This is because her fever usually climb up very high during night time.

Gosh, it was the 1st time she had fever, highest at 39.5deg. I was pretty worried because I have a friend whose son had high fever at toddler age til his brain were practically burnt! Now, her son is slightly mild retarded! This story has caused a great fear in me! Therefore, I'm very careful whenever she has fever. For babies, it's better to handle the illness fast than to drag so as to avoid any future inconvenience & health of the child!

Well, Evangeline has recovered from her fever within 4days. This has led her to 9.2KG instead of 9.6KG. Nevermind, we believe she'll pick up again real fast.

Mummy is so disappointed that she must penned it down... We spent so much efforts in trying to make a nice birthday celebration for Evangeline with all the preps, finding of place to celebrate, nice cake, invitation card, etc etc... Hoping that when you look back some 20yrs later, you'll be dearly reminded of your 1st year...

All these moments were meant to be captured in photos...especially the 1st Birthday pictures.. But, the pictures were so poorly taken. Mummy simply can't find a nice picture of us, three with the beautiful 2-tier "Winnie the Pooh" birthday cake! Well, I do not wanna point finger as to who is the person who took the pictures. We are indeed, grateful for the efforts... but then again, being the perfectionist me, it just can't absorb into my mind that these are the results...

OMG! How disappointing!!! Nevertheless, Mummy still tries to load it into a nice movie clip for everybody's enjoyment!

Yesterday was a rather memorable day for me as a first time mummy. Because I heard Evangeline calling me "mi", her short form of "mummy".. It was very heart-warming! I was very touched when I heard her said that! Was she calling me? Or was it just another one of her usual baby talk??? She kept repeating and repeating the word, "mi, mi, mi, mi" hahaha... It's so cute to hear her said that.

Today, it sort of confirmed her "mi". She looked at me and called me "mi" - so I take it as "Yes, she called me!" She has been calling my sister, "Ah-yi" and she knows exactly who is her "Ah-yi" and call her that whenever she sees my sis. I was jealous as she can't call me but her! Nevertheless, I'm glad that she is learning how to articulate her speech and picking up words every day which is an excellent sign for us to note.

As of today, 6 Jan 2009, Evangeline weighs 9.3kg standing at 72cm in height.

Says "mama" & "dada" to the correct parent -> According to daddy, yes! She calls him.
Plays patty-cake and peek-a-boo -> Yes, she loves playing peek-a-boo.
Stands alone for a couple of seconds -> Yes, in fact she stands alone longer than a couple of sec.
Cruises -> Yes, we have been noticing her cruising lots since 10mth.

2) Emerging skills (half of the kids can do)

Understands "no" and simple instructions -> Yes, she understands the meaning of "no" & simple instructions like sit still & wait for mummy.
Puts objects into a container -> Yes, she has obediently keep her toys inside the big drum a.k.a box.

Says one word besides "mama" & "dada" -> She loves making lotsa noise but we couldn't make out what are the words. She tries to imitate our mouth actions.

These are the pictures taken when our little family went to Sentosa last mth. It's been one month and Mummy didn't have time upload these pictures. Most of the pictures are taken at Underwater World Singapore (UWS) where Mummy used to work at. Evangeline loves seeing the colourful fishes and especially the tunnel where the fishes swam above her head.

Outside "Songs of the Sea", Eve is already deep in her slp... so in the end, we didn't watch the show. (We still have the tix & it expires in Feb 09!) Must find chance to visit...

Prep for Eve's FIRST birthday

My gal is reaching her first birthday soon. Both daddy & I are trying to think what we should do and how we should celebrate for you! At first, we wanted to book an unit at SAFRA Resort which is very spacious and 2 bedrooms, personal bbq pit too. But unfortunately, we couldn't get one as Aunty Lucy and Jimmy uncle were unsuccessful in their bid in PSA.

So, we booked a room at NTUC Costa Sands in Downtown East for you. It would be on 17 - 19 Jan 2009 (Sat - Mon). We will pre-celebrate your birthday on Sat evening as your actual day falls on a Tuesday, a working day for all. Celebrating your birthday on a weekend will be able to invite more to your little party. We decided on Downtown East because it is convenient to access to NTUC, Wet Wet Wild, etc... We are gonna to bbq too.

Mummy is gonna order a beautiful 2-tier birthday cake for you. It will look something like this (above) posted. We've yet to decide which design to choose for you and if we are gonna add in strawberry shortcake figurine or Barney figurine... Mmmm, both also very cute but we know you love Barney much! We shall start searching for Barney figurines and see if we can find the whole gang!

We also wanna decorate the room a little fancier, with balloons, birthday wordings, ribbons, etc. (will update on this info)

What is Evangeline gonna wear for her birthday??? Perhaps a pretty white dress for you? We have not decided on this yet but surely it'll be a lovely dress for you. (to be updated soon).

For food wise, we are doing bbq, fried meehoon/ meesiam, chix curry & drinks. (to be updated again).

My favourite book

Eve has her favourite book. The title of the book is "Peekaboo Friends". She loves the flip/flap feature in this book. This book is about Robbie trying to find his animal friends, from behind the curtains, behind the book, inside the drawer, under the carpet and many more places in the house.

She knows exactly where the hidden animals are located. Before we can finish reading each sentence in every page, she has already flip open the flap & found the animal. Evangeline also can recognise this book & the title of this book. Whenever we ask her:"Where is Peekaboo Friends?" She'll search and look for the book among other books. Everyday, we got to read to her this book.

Why she loves this book so much???

Evangeline developed a liking for animals. We realised that it probably due to the fact that this book is all about animals. Robbie's friends are Giraffe, Penguin, Doggy, Kitten, Rabbit, etc... Evangeline simply loves animals....

New milestone: Clapping hands

It's been a while since I last blog on Evangeline. She has been developing very well in these two months. Eve has improved her motor skills like "CLAPPING HANDS". We have been teaching her how to clap hands, she has tried doing it but couldn't put both hands together. Just 2 days ago, Eve clapped her hands. Whenever she hears the song:"If you are happy", she'll clap her hands to the music.

9 months old

Evangeline is 9 months old. She is going for her 9mth old assessment tomorrow at Polyclinic. I'm excited how she'll fair as a 9mth old baby compared to national's standard. I believe she's a strong baby, active girl and bubbly girl. What mummy noticed is that:

She could imitate our pronunciation. Yday, I said "Bye Bye".. Evangeline looked at my mouth and follow exactly the same way and blah out the words "Bye Bye" to me before I set out to work. Wow, my baby can talk!
She likes to talk a lot and scream a lot too. Always hearing her screaming, saying things like dad-di, bear-bear, da-da, etc.
She knows and can relate to us. E.g. when we ask:"Where's Leo-leo?" She knows we are referring to our pet dog, Leo and starts looking for him with her eyes moving around the house.
She also knows her pet friend, Giraffe. Because everytime when I say "Where's your Giraffe?" She knows who is Giraffe and starts to kiss it, etc.
Evangeline is independent. Just the other day, I noticed her sitting inside her baby cot playing by herself when she's awake without crying. So i quietly sneaked off to wash up before presenting myself infront of her. At times, she could also play by herself on the playmat whilst we are dining.
She could wave Goodbyes to people.
She is always standing on her own for a few mins (at times, holding her toys with both hands) and proud to show off her skills!
Sometimes she squats after she stands.
She has been crawling on all fours w/o belly touching floor for months. I heard that she'll soon knows how to walk.
Yday she managed to drink from her magmag with straw!
She understands the meaning of "NO" and when she made any of us upset, she'll try to pacify us by giving us a loving hug!

Evangeline is getting more sensible and adorable. We'll update her results of assessment again!

Happy 7 months old

Hi Evangeline, Mummy just dropping by to say "Happy 7 months old!!!"... You are getting smarter and smarter each day. Yesterday, we brought your friend, Marie who is 3mths old, to pierce her ears cos she saw your earrings which makes you look so pretty.. When the Dr pierced her ear, she cried!!! Upon hearing her cries, you cried too! Gosh, mummy and Aunt Michelle are wondering if you felt the pain for Marie and cried on her behalf or you are afraid that you will be next. Nevertheless, you looked scared.

A mini update:

Mummy noticed that you can really sit very stably on your own without support, usually you are holding on to your toys on your hands and into your mouth!
You are getting very attached to mummy now. Whenever mummy is back from work, you'd always cries for mummy to carry you. Next, you'd look for mummy's breasts to latch on even though you have had your meal not long ago.
You enjoyed listening to music of any sorts and we were surprised that you didn't make too much noise or discomforts when we brought you to your FIRST MOVIE (Money not enough 2) on 18 August 2008. So you are a good baby.
You have 2 teeth now and growing.....
You have been taking mummy's milk for 7 mths, including some puree & porridge.

Mummy is thinking of introducing Formula Milk to you to supplement BM but has not thought of any brands. Aunt Michelle recommended Nan 2 DHA. Perhaps we should try that on you first and see how you react to it??????

Avocado Puree

We've been experiencing with many different types of vegetable and fruit puree for Eve. She doesn't seem to be a foodie and accept different flavour of foods readily because most of the time, she shows us the yucky taste kinda look. The food that she enjoyed most at the moment is Rice Cereal or Rice Cereal with Apple/ Cranberry taste. Not to mention mummy's nutritional breastmilk! Today, I tried to feed her Avocado puree. In the beginning, she was quite puzzled with the taste as I believe she was expecting Rice Cereal. Then, slowly and steadily, she accepted the avocado taste and seems to enjoy the fruit and took abt 10 over small spoons. I'll continue to feed her the remaining puree tomorrow.

"Avocado are high in nutrients such as fibre, potassium, vitamin E, B vitamins and folate. It also contains beneficial unsaturated fats." - extract from Firstfoods.

First Tooth and other developments

Hi! Evangeline has grown her FIRST TOOTH! I felt it sprouting out on her lower gum. Wow! I congratulated her for having a tooth and soon there will be many more teeth filling up her whole mouth! By then, I ain't too sure if I still can continue to breastfeed her because I'm afraid that she'll bite me with her teeth. Well, for now Mummy's milk is still sufficient to hold her appetite.

In the very first beginning, Mummy has a target to breastfeed for six months as suggested by World Health Organisation (WHO) to fully supplement Eve with breastmilk. Now, Mummy has reached the target and looking forward to breastfeed for 1 or 2yrs maximum. However, it'll all depends whether Eve wants to and if she'll bite me, grind me with her little teeth.

Time has passed so quickly that Eve has already reached half of her FIRST year. In no time, she'll be able to baby talk, walk, run and start questioning things that amazed or puzzled her. Just to keep track on her growth:

Physically and mentally

Keeps her head level when pulled to a sitting position
Sits unsupported with both hands holding on an object
Holds her own bottle when feeding
Drinks from the Magmag sprout bottle with help
Opens her mouth for spoon during cereal time
Rolls over and back umpteen times
Crawls forward but not very fast
Begins teething

Language and emotions

Combines vowel-consonant sounds
Makes two-syllable sounds (e.g. pear-pear)
Imitates facial expressions

These are the skills that are expected from a 6 mths old baby. However, Eve has shown some signs of skills which are expected from a 7 mths old baby. They are:-

Physically and mentally

Looks for something that has dropped. She will look at her toys that has dropped from her highchair and wants you to pick up for her. Or at times, when she's playing on her playmat and dropped her toys from her hand, she'll pick them up.
Sits well for abt 5mins or so
Lunges forward from sitting position to grasp an object
Gets up on all fours and rocks back and forth (this sign she has started since she's abt 5plus to 6 mths)

Language and emotions

Recognises her own name or nickname, i.e Xiao Hong Dou, baby, whenever we call her
Recognises voices especially Daddy's, Mummy's, Mama's
Begins to understand meaning of "No", "Open your mouth" (this sign she has also started to understand as young as 4th mth)

I'm glad that Eve is developing so well and healthy. Her hair has also grown longer and more and looking slightly more like a girl!

Leopard crawl

Mummy has been busy with work and did not have time to blog about Evangeline's ability to crawl when she was about 5plus mths. We witnessed her moving backwards and slowly she was away from her original location. Crawling away just like the army style - leopard crawl! Sometimes, she makes 360 degree turn.

Wow, that's another new milestone of hers! Starting to learn how to crawl, after been able to sit with minimal support. Then, last week we witnessed her trying to swing front and back with her little bum lift up. I believe she's learning how to crawl on four. Mummy tried to assist her by coordinating her limbs and she did show some improvement by moving slow and little steps. In no time, we will be so busy looking out for her around the house... Keep up the crawling spirit, Evangeline!

First Feed - Rice Cereal

Evangeline has had her first try of solid food just before she reached 6th mth. She had rice cereal mixed with mummy's breastmilk. She did not reject the first taste and was slowly enjoying her food. Then, we introduced carrots puree, potato puree and pear puree to her. Somehow, she was not used to the new flavours of her food and showed us the "yucks!" face. And she even made the vomitting kind of expression with the sound - yuoak! Does that mean she didn't like the food? We are not very sure but grandma wanted to try her on porridge.... which mummy thinks we should take it easily and let her get used to her rice cereal before doing so. Any comments???

The 1st time we brought Evangeline for a dip. She wore the bare-back swimming suit that Auntie Joey bought from States. She also put on the wetsuit from Konfidence that I bought for her. We bought a neckfloat for her and wore it on for her too. But Eve didn't look like she enjoyed the neckfloat at her neck. She made a lot of noises when we put on the neckfloat for her. When we removed it out, she seems more comfortable & enjoyed the session better.

Able to sit on her own

Just that day, we brought Eve for 3rd 6-in-1 jab, the last dose until when she reached 15 mths. She is pretty strong as she did not develop any fever after her jab! According to her pead, she is progressing very well in terms of health, physically & mentally. Ok, here's her updates:-

Weight: 7.5 kg

Height: 66 cm

At age: 5 mths 2 weeks

She is under 75% percentile for gals her age. I still thought she was small! The paed still assured me Eve is not small & definitely healthy baby. Dr Tan checked on Eve's general health like:

Her hearing skills - passed. She could hear high & low tone pitch.
Her eye sight - passed. She could see things in almost pitch dark.
Her motor skills - passed. She could grab things and pass an object from one hand to the other.
Her legs movement - passed. She is very agile & likes to jump alot.
She could roll over from back to front, front to back.
She could SIT! We were quite surprised because we didn't realised that skill. Her backbone was very straight when she sit and could stay sit for a few minutes without assistance. Well, we will practice that skill of hers until she could sit on her own for good.
She is not teething yet though.
Dr Tan also check if she could babble a few words like mama or dada, etc. We only realised that she likes to scream alot and try to imitate our words but haven't realised whether she could say mama or dada...

Well, after going through those checks, we are appreciative and thank God that Evangeline has progressed well as what she could do at her age. We asked Dr Tan if she needs to go for checkup at 9 mths but Dr Tan said Evangeline is fine so far and doesn't need to do the checks as she's progressing well.

First fall

It was 2am when I heard the "kolok-ko-ko". Evangeline fell off from the bed!!! OMG! She started crying uncontrollably. But, luckily Daddy was sleeping on the mattress on the floor where Eve landed on. Her head hit the bed frame, that explained the sound we heard. What actually happened??? At about 12plus mn, Eve was latched on Mummy lying side by side on the bed. After a while, we fell asleep and nobody carried Eve back to her cot. I also totally forgot that Eve was still lying by my side. How did she fall? We still do not know but we were speculating that she might have rolled over to the other side or Mummy accidentally push her over the edge! So poor Eve...

5 months old

Hi hi... Today - Evangeline is FIVE months old.. Some updates of her growth development:-

She'll reach out her hands when she wants you to carry her, esp when you clap, clap your hands and ask her if she want to be carried.
She'll look away or turn away to show that she doesn't like you or doesn't want you to carry her.
She screams when you remove her toys away from her - show her dislike
She can hold her pacifier well from one hand to the other and put it in her mouth (developing her motor skills)
She sleeps through the night (sometimes with a night feed at abt 11ish to 12am)
She responds to you when you call her name
She knows who is "Mummy", "Daddy", "Mama", etc - people in her life
She is very sensitive to voices - e.g. she is drinking milk with her eyes closed but when she hears her Daddy's voice from a distance, she opens her eyes!
She will lift up both her legs when I change her diapers (seems like she knows she's been cleaned up)

From the above, I can tell that my princess is developing well at her age if not, better than average. She is also very inquisitive as she'll observe and keep looking at her surrounding whenever she's out. Whenever we tell her that she's going out, she seems to be able to understand and becomes very excited and make lots of happy noises. She weighs 7.1kg now!

Evangeline, mummy is starting work on Monday, 23 Jun 08. So, mummy will not be able to spend so much time with you except for feeding. Mummy needs to go back to workforce because mummy needs $$$ to pamper you with nice clothes, classes, etc. And also help daddy out in the finances. Mama will be looking after you lovingly. Mummy do hope you understand, ok my baby? Mummy loves you...

Kindermusik Lesson

Wow, this is the 1st time Evangeline attended a lesson, a music lesson with Daddy. It was at Kindermusik located in Tanglin Mall. There were 12 other babies from Jan 2008 Motherhood forum. Eve seems to have enjoyed herself during the lesson. She was very inquisitive and kept looking at other babies. I supposed this is the first time she's seeing so many babies around her age at one time. Teacher Doreen taught Daddy

how to do massage for her after bath
how to move her limbs so that she will learn how to walk earlier
how to interact with her using musical instruments
to show Eve a mirror so that she can have self-identification
that throwing Eve high up and down is not recommended as it would cause phobia of heights in her

These are some of the pointers I heard from Daddy as I didn't attend the class with Eve. I gave Daddy the opportunity to bond with her. The class was at 10am (which actually coincide with her sleeping time). In the beginning, she was very active and agile. However three-quarter into the lesson, she was getting sleepy and we could tell that she was trying very very hard to stay awake. It failed!!! She fell asleep towards the end of the lesson. Hahaha... It was such a funny sight to see her trying to stay awake. Nevertheless, we could tell that she had some fun. I wonder if Daddy intend to let her sign up the lessons which cost about S$23++ per lesson. There are a total of 8 lessons. But the timing is at 10am which I think it's tough for Eve to enjoy thoroughly. If the lesson could be later, I supposed it would be no harm to let her go for the lessons...

A new milestone: Roll over

Today, I witnessed my gal rolled over by herself. For the past weeks, she has been turning with our assistance. But today, she did it on her own! It was a very slow process. First, she turned to her right, then she turned both her legs and whole backside and rested for a while. Slowly, very slowly she tried to lift her body, left hand and shoulder away from the bed and voila, she is on her tummy!!! It is another new milestone for her. "Great job, Evangeline!"

I learnt to take things easy and slowly through Evangeline's growth. I didn't want to push her and let her take things her own way and time. I wasn't worried about when she is gonna turn or flip. I know it will come to her sooner or later. Some babies do it at 2mths plus, some later. I believe every baby is an individual and they, themselves choose when they wanna do so. I'm quite happy with myself that I'm not stressing over this issue. An improvement for me too!!!
